Mason Jar Fall Luminary

We have been so inspired by all of the beautiful fall decor that has been popping up in stores lately!  The crisp, warm colors of fall are so inviting.  You don’t have to spend a lot of money on fancy fall decor when you can make your own, and this year I am bound and determined to change that.  

We whipped up this cute Mason Jar Fall Luminary in no time at all. This would also make a wonderful classroom or craft activity. The supplies for this fall craft activity as so simple. With just a few supplies needed, this is an affordable fall or Halloween craft, and the process of making these homemade mason jar luminaries is enjoyable and fun!

Materials needed to create Mason Jar Fall Luminary

• Cricut Maker or Explore
• Adhesive vinyl
• Mason jar
• Acrylic craft paint
• Foam brush
• Twine
• Votive candles and filler

How to Make Fall Luminary Jars

1. I began by cutting out a maple leaf of adhesive vinyl with my Cricut Explore.  If you don’t have a cutting machine, you can trace and cut out a leaf design on adhesive vinyl.
2. Apply the cut vinyl maple leaf to the smooth side of the mason jar.
3. Pick an acrylic paint color that you want to use.  I chose persimmon for fall.
4. Begin painting a thin coat of paint on the mason jar. Pro tip:  I use a foil cupcake liner for my paint!  It makes clean up a breeze!
5. Be sure you allow the paint to dry completely between each coat.  Otherwise, it will clump and pull away from the glass.  It took about 3 coats for it to be completely covered.
6. Once the mason jar is dry, gently peel away the vinyl leaf decal.  Touch up any rough edges with a small paintbrush.

I added some corn kernels to the bottom and placed the votive candle inside like I did for my Thanksgiving mantel.  Add some twine or ribbon around the top of the jar to finish it off!

Super cute and adds just a hint of fall color and decor to any home! Plus it looks beautiful lit up in the evenings!

Mini Mod Podge Fabric Pumpkins

As a kid, did you like pouring glue on your hand, letting it dry and peel off?  Well, if you answered yes, this is the craft project for you!  In other words, things are about to get messy.  You’ve been warned.

Materials needed to make Mini Mod Podge Fabric Pumpkins

• Fabric strips
  (Wal-mart had packs of these in the fabric section.  I grabbed some that had lots of fall colors.)
• Scissors
• Mod podge
• Mini pumpkins
• Foam brush
• Twine

How to Make Fabric Pumpkins

I used the antique matte Mod Podge because it was all I had laying around the house.

1. Pick which fabric strips you want to use.  I cut five 4 inch sections from each strip.  Then, I cut those length wise four times.
2. Lay out a paper plate and pour the Mod Podge on the plate.  Now here’s where things get messy.  You want to coat each strip of fabric in the Mod Podge.  I made sure that each strip was slimy and full of glue.
3. Once your strip of fabric is sufficiently “goo-ed”, add to the pumpkin.  Place the end next to the stem and wrap it around to the bottom.  Use your fingers to press the fabric into all of the groves of the pumpkin.  You want to maintain the integrity and shape of the pumpkin.
4. Continue this process until the pumpkin is covered in fabric.  See how you can still see the pumpkin’s shape?
5. Set aside and allow to dry.  It took about an hour before it was completely dry.
6. You may have to turn it over and let the bottom get some air to dry.
7. Once the pumpkin is dry, add some twine at the base of the stem and tie into a bow.

Pom Pom Spiders for Halloween

It’s so funny how spiders are so spooky until they are cute … and these pom pom spiders are definitely cute!

I was looking through older posts and came across one I had done for Valentine’s Day with my pom pom maker. I hadn’t tried making anything for Halloween with it so I decided to try my hand at these arachnids. I’m glad I did because they turned out super cute!

Materials needed for Pom Pom Spiders

• Black yarn
• Pom pom maker (from Clover)
• Scissors
• Black pipe cleaners
• Googly eyes
• Small pom pom (for nose)
• Hot glue gun

For a complete tutorial on how to use your pom pom maker, check out this post. It will walk you through the process step by step.

Once you’ve made your pom pom, take two black pipe cleaners and cut them in half. Carefully poke one of the cut pipe cleaners through the pom pom.

Add the remaining three pipe cleaner halves through the center of the pom pom.

Attempt to arrange them as symmetrically as possible. Bend just the ends downward so they can stand up on their own.

Next, hot glue the googly eyes in place. Once dry, hot glue the small pom pom as a nose! I used orange and green pom poms for the noses to keep with Halloween colors.

I just adore how he turned out!  

This is a great kids project too! The pom pom maker is super easy to use and they will have fun making these cute little guys. Just be sure to help them with the hot glue gun so we don’t burn any tiny fingers.

Pumpkin Lollipop Pull

Turn your Halloween pumpkin into a lollipop pull that the kids will love. Remember the lollipop pulls at carnivals? You pull out a lollipop and depending on what color the tip is, you win a certain prize! This clown faced pumpkin reminds me of both Halloween and carnivals, so it’s a perfect fit!

The great thing about this project is it can be used year after year!

Materials needed for Pumpkin Lollipop Pull

• Cricut Explore or Maker
• Light grip mat
• Adhesive vinyl
• Transfer tape
• Basic tool set
• Fine point blade
• Foam pumpkin
• Drill
• Lollipops

1. Begin by selecting the image above. Using your contour tool remove everything but the facial features of the clown. Size image to fit your pumpkin. (Since I used two different colors of vinyl, I also excluded the eyes when cutting the mouth and nose and vice versa for when I cut the eyes.)
2. If you don’t have or don’t want to use a Cricut, you could also cut these out of adhesive vinyl sheets or you could also paint on the clown face.
3. Once the mouth and nose were cut, I weeded away any excess vinyl. Then apply transfer tape over the weeded image.
4. Burnish vinyl with scraper tool and then gently peel away the transfer tape. Your image will now be on the transfer tape. Carefully arrange the image onto pumpkin.
5. Next, burnish the image again with the scraper tool and then carefully peel away the transfer tape. Your image will now be adhered to the pumpkin. Repeat the above process for the eyes.
6. Once your face is applied to the pumpkin, you will need to drill holes for the lollipops. I started with a rough pattern in mind, however, it didn’t look full enough and then I ended up adding holes willy nilly to fill it out.
7. Once the holes are drilled, add your lollipops as his hair!

I kept singing that song from Madagascar 3. It totally looks like a colorful clown wig!

This would be great to sit out on Halloween if you are not going to be home to answer the door for trick or treaters!

Glow in the Dark Pumpkin Balloons

I’ve been wanting to try to make these Glow in the Dark Pumpkin Balloons for a couple of years.  But every time Halloween rolls around, I get swept up in the holiday flurry and completely forget about them!  Last year, I added it to my phone to remind me.  

You will not believe how easy and fun these fun balloons!

At first, I thought that a small glow stick would do the trick.  Unfortunately, the light is not bright enough to be seen all the way through the balloon.  I needed an actual light.  

That’s when I found these fun little LED lights on Amazon. (they have blinking and non-blinking options)
Here is another option of LED balloon lights that you might like. (these are not the ones I used)

These little LED lights around about 1.5 inches long and narrow enough to fit into the balloon.  The light simply twists on and if you are careful, you can twist it off while still in the balloon.  We tested them and left them on in the balloons just to see if it damaged the latex.  

No issues at all!  AND they stayed lit for 48 hours!

To start, twist the light on and place in the orange balloon.  Blow up the balloon (or fill with helium) with light inside.  Set the balloon aside.

I created jack o lantern faces on my Cricut Explore.  Since most people do not have a Cricut, I try to stick to posts that even you can do.  

I cut out the faces on black adhesive vinyl and attached them to the filled balloons.  You can draw your own faces on the back of the black vinyl and cut with scissors.

I just love how these turned out!  I’m going to fill them with helium and line the porch on Halloween!

What do you think?  Super fun, right?!  I even let Reed play with the black vinyl and create his own!

I love beaded wreaths! They are so pretty but can be tricky to make due to the beads wanting to rotate as you add your floral. I took the guesswork out for you by creating this tutorial. Follow along to create your own!

Materials needed for Beaded Halloween Wreath

• Wood beaded wreath form
• Matte black spray paint
• Foam block
• Zip ties
• Floral wire
• Halloween floral (purchased mine from Walmart)
• Hot glue gun
• Halloween ribbon

Begin by spray painting your wood beaded wreath form with the matte black spray paint. Lightly spray and allow to dry, continue until covered to your liking. It doesn’t have to be perfect because a little bit of wood showing looks farmhouse-y.

Cut foam blocks to fit on inner part of your wreath. Attach the foam blocks with zip ties.

Grab your Halloween floral. I pulled off the blooms and placed them first before adhering with the hot glue. That way you are not stuck with a design you are not happy with.

Once you have the floral arranged as you like, begin adhering with the hot glue gun. With the specific floral I chose, I pulled off the skull to place in the center of the flowers.

Now to secure the floral so it weight does not pull it forward when you hang it. Turn your wreath over. Grab some floral wire and use it to secure the longer branches on the sides. This will make the wreath more secure.

To finish it off, add to some ribbon to the stop to create a door hanger.

I love how this turned out! Any variation on this will be stunning. Add a raven hanging from the top or some spider webbing! You can make it yours! Share your creations on our Facebook page!

Everyone is getting ready for Halloween! I’ve made my Trick or Treat Bag and now you can surprise your neighbors with this fun idea!

Materials needed for Halloween Door Hanger

Cricut Maker or Explore
Light grip mat 12×12
Scoring wheel
Halloween cardstock paper
Black adhesive vinyl
Cricut basic tool set
Transfer tape
Hot glue gun

(That Halloween cardstock is from Michaels.  It’s called Hocus Pocus Supercherie and comes in a 12×12 inch pack.  There are so many cute patterns!  All pages are two sided!)

The door hanger measures at 11.5 inches wide.  Choose your favorite two sided Halloween cardstock to use.  Lay the pattern you want on the outside face down on the cutting mat.  Follow the prompts for cutting and scoring.  Once door hanger is cut and scored, remove from the mat and begin folding along the score lines.

Glue the small fold (on the left of the above picture) to the side of the door hanger.

Fold the small side flaps on the bottom toward the middle.  Close the bottom up by folding and hot gluing into place.

My sister also created a bunch of fun Halloween shapes and characters you can cut out of adhesive vinyl to decorate your door hanger!

I cut the Boo out of adhesive vinyl  Weed away the excess vinyl and use transfer tape to apply to outside of your Halloween Door Hanger!

The final step is to fill with candy and pass out around the neighborhood!  These would also be cute to pass out at work or school.  I know I would like to get a box full of candy!  LOL

Aren’t these the cutest?!  Prepare to be the coolest neighbor on the street!

These adorable embroidery hoops are so much fun to make!  Plus this is a fun project for kids to help with!  You can use them as ornaments or wall hangings. Would be a great idea for scouts meeting or craft night with the girls!

Materials needed for Spider Web Hoop Art

• 3 inch wood embroidery hoops
• Black lace
• Plastic spider rings
• Scissors
• Hot glue gun
• Pom pom trim
• Black satin ribbon

Untwist the screw at the top of the embroidery hoop.  Set aside the outside ring.  Lay a small piece of black lace over the inner embroidery hoop ring.  Secure the black lace by replacing the outer ring around the inner ring.  Tighten the screw on top of the embroidery hoop.  Be sure the lace is taut prior to trimming.

Use your scissors to trim the excess black lace around the back of the embroidery hoop.

Warm up the hot glue gun.  Hot glue the pom pom trim to the outside of the embroidery hoop.  Repeat the process until the entire outer ring has pom pom trim glued to it.

Trim excess pom pom trim.  Make a bow out of black ribbon to hide the screw at the top of the embroidery hoop.  Hot glue the ribbon into place.

For the finishing touch, add a plastic spider to the black lace.  Because these are rings, trim off the ring portion with your scissors.  Place a dab of hot glue on the underside of the spider and attach to the black lace.

Isn’t that darling?!  Doesn’t make spiders seem so scary when you create it into a fun piece of holiday decor.
