Punalu’u Black Sand Beach
I love sea turtles! All I wanted was to see sea turtles. My husband did a lot of research and found the best beaches for doing just that. Punalu’u Black Sand Beach did not disappoint! Not only did we see these two beauties sunbathing, we also saw three swimming in the water! They were beautiful! They request you stay at least 10 feet away from the turtles and do not touch them. When swimming or snorkeling, they may swim right up to you but again keep your distance.
There are some small tide pools along the shoreline where you can see mussels, crabs, and small fish. It’s pretty neat to see these jumping crabs!
This is not an ideal beach for swimming. Although we did see people wading and snorkeling. Keep an eye on the tide and swim at your own risk. The current can be quite strong. They do have picnic and bathroom facilities. We had lunch here! They also have a small souvenir shop on the beach.
