Stitched iPad Case

I have wanted a stitched iPad case for ages!  Have you seen the Kate Spade iPad covers?  They are super adorable but I am NOT spending $50 on something I could make myself.

This iPad cover is the “cousin” of the sunglasses case I made.  {In case you missed the sunglasses case, you can find it here.}

Wanna make your own Stitched iPad case?

Here’s what you need:

Coordinating fabric

Thread

Sewing machine

Fusible fleece

Velcro

Liquid stitch

Start by cutting your fabric into 21 inch by 11.5 inch pieces.  (I used fat quarters – woot!)  Cut three pieces of fusible fleece.  The sizes should be 8 inch by 10 inch, 7 inch by 10 inch and 4 inch by 10 inch.  Place patterned sides together.

Place the fusible fleece like this.

Iron the fusible fleece in place.

Pin around the edges.  Leave a six inch opening at the top of the “flap” to turn right side out when done stitching.

Sew around the edges (minus the opening).  Use 1/4 inch marker.  Back stitch around the opening to strengthen it.

Cut the corners off.

Turn right side out.  Push the corners out.

Iron as flat as you can get it.

Fold in the fabric around the opening and iron in place.

Pin opening closed.

Fold up the bottom half of the case and pin in place.

Top stitch around these three edges.

Once the top stitching is complete, you will want to use the Liquid Stitch to adhere your velcro.  This will need to set for 24 hours.

Finally, embellish with whatever you wish!

I made this one for a friend whose favorite color is purple.  I may just have to make one to match my sunglasses case!  =)

  1. So cute…Now why did I opt for a new laptop instead of an iPad???

  2. Love this! Now I just need an Ipad to go in it…;) Honestly though, you made it look so simple and I adore the rosettes. Thanks for sharing a great tutorial :)

  3. I love this! Very pretty!

  4. Great idea! I wonder if you could put pieces of cardboard inside to fabric so that the case would stand up and support the ipad like those expensive cases. I may have to try that! I’m so glad you linked this up at One Creative Weekend! I love it!

  5. This is the cutest!! I LOVE the color too!!

  6. Cool idea. I have an iPad that I never use cause I’m too cheap to buy a good case. I saw another DIY one that used cardboard from an old binder to make a stand. I may have to combine the two ideas for a super sturdy cute case. Thanks for the idea.

  7. Thank you, Jill! Just what I needed!
