These beautiful chairs definitely needed something to make them a little more comfortable.  I scoured Pinterest and all I could find was ONE round cushion tutorial.  What?!  I was shocked.  Pinterest has never failed me.  The inspiration for my tutorial was from Cluck Cluck Sew.  As much as I LOVE those Sprocket Pillows, I wanted something that I could quickly whip up.  I made some changes to create this Simple Round Cushion tutorial!

MATERIALS TO CREATE YOUR OWN SIMPLE ROUND CUSHION

  • 1 yard of fabric with coordinating thread {I used Happy Go Lucky Navy Hop by Bonnie and Camille for Moda Fabric.}
  • Scissors
  • Acrylic ruler
  • Cutting mat
  • Rotary cutter
  • Iron
  • Sewing machine – I have a Singer Confidence Quilter and love it!  Super easy to thread and use.
  • Polyfil
  • Needle and thread

For my circles, I used an old Christmas tray which just happened to be 14 inches in diameter and the same size as my chair!  Trace on the back side of your fabric and cut out.  Each cushion will require 2 circles and one strip measuring 3 inches x 43.5 inches.

Set aside and begin making your ties.  I cut out (2) two inch x 24 inch strips.

1.  Fold the ends in and iron for a finished look.
2.  Fold the bottom to the middle and iron.  Repeat on top.
3.  Fold the whole thing in half lengthwise and iron.
4.  Sew together.

Set aside your cushion ties.

Pin your strip to your circle right sides together.

There will be overlap from the strip.  Unpin and sew the two ends together.  Trim the excess and repin in place.  Sew around the entire circle using a 1/4 inch seam allowance.

Now it’s time to measure where your ties will go.  To accomplish this, I took the sewn part and the ties out to my chair.  Using your straight pins, fold the tie in half and pin in place.

Your layers will look like this.

Pin the rest of the circle in the same manner as before.  Sew together.  Be sure to leave a small opening so you can turn right side out.

Once it’s sewn together, turn right side out and stuff with the Polyfil.

Sew the hole closed by hand.  And there you have it!  Easy peasy!  Takes 30 minutes!

I love how the ties look too!
