This Thankful Turkey is a great project to make with the kids!

 Happy November 1st and the beginning of the holiday onslaught!

{Does anyone else feel like once Halloween is over, the end of the year just sneaks up on you?}

I have a confession to make.  I usually skip right over poor old Thanksgiving.  My mind instantly shifts to red and green.  Therefore, I have little to no Thanksgiving decorations.  That is sacriligious for a craft blogger.

I have been seeing all sorts of beautiful countdowns and Thankful Trees on Pinterest and decided to do my own take.  I give you…Thankful Turkey!

He’s kinda cute, right?  My son just loves this guy.

Materials needed to make your own Thankful Turkey

Large foam ball
Medium foam ball
Brown yarn
Wooden circle
Googly eyes
Toothpicks
Orange felt
Cardstock
Wooden skewers
Black marker

supplies needed

{Also add orange paint, scrapbook paper, kabob skewers and hot glue gun!}

I began by wrapping the large and medium foam ball with brown yarn.  They kind of look like coconuts.  LOL

Once wrapped, take two toothpicks and place them in the medium foam ball and stick them into the larger foam ball.

Hot glue the googly eyes and a triangle of orange felt to create your turkey face.

Next, I freehanded a “feather stencil” and traced about 22 of those bad boys.  Cut them out and begin writing the things for which you and your family are thankful.  Then hot glue the skewers to the back of the “feathers” and stick them in your yarn turkey.  I played around with how I wanted his plumage to look.

{You will notice dinosaurs and fish & milk which are Reed’s.}

This would make the perfect kid’s table centerpiece for your family Thanksgiving gathering!

What are you thankful for this holiday season?  Do you have a Thankful Tree or a Thankful Turkey?
