Mason Jar Fall Luminary

We have been so inspired by all of the beautiful fall decor that has been popping up in stores lately!  The crisp, warm colors of fall are so inviting.  You don’t have to spend a lot of money on fancy fall decor when you can make your own, and this year I am bound and determined to change that.  

We whipped up this cute Mason Jar Fall Luminary in no time at all. This would also make a wonderful classroom or craft activity. The supplies for this fall craft activity as so simple. With just a few supplies needed, this is an affordable fall or Halloween craft, and the process of making these homemade mason jar luminaries is enjoyable and fun!

Materials needed to create Mason Jar Fall Luminary

• Cricut Maker or Explore
• Adhesive vinyl
• Mason jar
• Acrylic craft paint
• Foam brush
• Twine
• Votive candles and filler

How to Make Fall Luminary Jars

1. I began by cutting out a maple leaf of adhesive vinyl with my Cricut Explore.  If you don’t have a cutting machine, you can trace and cut out a leaf design on adhesive vinyl.
2. Apply the cut vinyl maple leaf to the smooth side of the mason jar.
3. Pick an acrylic paint color that you want to use.  I chose persimmon for fall.
4. Begin painting a thin coat of paint on the mason jar. Pro tip:  I use a foil cupcake liner for my paint!  It makes clean up a breeze!
5. Be sure you allow the paint to dry completely between each coat.  Otherwise, it will clump and pull away from the glass.  It took about 3 coats for it to be completely covered.
6. Once the mason jar is dry, gently peel away the vinyl leaf decal.  Touch up any rough edges with a small paintbrush.

I added some corn kernels to the bottom and placed the votive candle inside like I did for my Thanksgiving mantel.  Add some twine or ribbon around the top of the jar to finish it off!

Super cute and adds just a hint of fall color and decor to any home! Plus it looks beautiful lit up in the evenings!

Mini Mod Podge Fabric Pumpkins

As a kid, did you like pouring glue on your hand, letting it dry and peel off?  Well, if you answered yes, this is the craft project for you!  In other words, things are about to get messy.  You’ve been warned.

Materials needed to make Mini Mod Podge Fabric Pumpkins

• Fabric strips
  (Wal-mart had packs of these in the fabric section.  I grabbed some that had lots of fall colors.)
• Scissors
• Mod podge
• Mini pumpkins
• Foam brush
• Twine

How to Make Fabric Pumpkins

I used the antique matte Mod Podge because it was all I had laying around the house.

1. Pick which fabric strips you want to use.  I cut five 4 inch sections from each strip.  Then, I cut those length wise four times.
2. Lay out a paper plate and pour the Mod Podge on the plate.  Now here’s where things get messy.  You want to coat each strip of fabric in the Mod Podge.  I made sure that each strip was slimy and full of glue.
3. Once your strip of fabric is sufficiently “goo-ed”, add to the pumpkin.  Place the end next to the stem and wrap it around to the bottom.  Use your fingers to press the fabric into all of the groves of the pumpkin.  You want to maintain the integrity and shape of the pumpkin.
4. Continue this process until the pumpkin is covered in fabric.  See how you can still see the pumpkin’s shape?
5. Set aside and allow to dry.  It took about an hour before it was completely dry.
6. You may have to turn it over and let the bottom get some air to dry.
7. Once the pumpkin is dry, add some twine at the base of the stem and tie into a bow.

One of the coolest things about xTool is the library full of free projects! Users and official xTool upload projects for you to choose from. I found this pumpkin lantern in the project library and knew it would be perfect for my harvest tablescape.

Materials needed for Wooden Pumpkin Lantern

• xTool M1 10W
• 3mm basswood
• Hot glue/hot glue gun
• Small greenery wreath
• Wired jute twine
• Battery operated tea light

Open xTool Creative Space (XCS). In the upper right hand corner, click xTool Projects. Scroll down to the xTool Exclusive Projects and click see more. Scroll through the library and choose the Pumpkin Candle Holder. When you open the project, it will give you the option to open in XCS or download the file. I opened it in XCS. The instructions for assembly are included.

(Since this project was made for a P2, you will need to click the connect machine option in the upper right hand corner to adjust to the M1.)

Load your basswood into the M1. Be sure to place on top of the triangle prisms. Close the lid to refresh the image on your canvas. Size the project to your real time material image. Check to be sure your settings are as follows…

Laser flat
3mm basswood
Triangle prisms

Click on the image and check that “cut” is selected for your image. Once you have it set as you want it, click “process” and then click “start”. Press the flashing button on the front of your M1 to begin laser cutting your wooden pumpkin lantern.

Cutting time was a little over 18 minutes.

The machine will beep when cutting is complete. Open lid and remove the wood.

Carefully punch out the cut pieces of the wooden pumpkin lantern.

I find it easiest to use a little bit of hot glue on each piece when assembling. Otherwise, the pieces do not stay in place and makes it difficult to put together. Assemble according to instructions that were listed in project library.

Once assembly was complete, I added a piece of wired jute twine and some greenery to the stem of the pumpkin lantern. Place on a small wreath and add a battery operated tea light and you have the perfect centerpiece for Thanksgiving!

I absolutely love how this Wooden Pumpkin Lantern turned out and cannot wait to show it off this fall.

I was browsing through images in Design Space the other day for Halloween and stumbled across this cute 3D pumpkin. What a great idea for placecards! This placecard was so easy to make and was finished in 10 minutes!

Materials needed for Paper Pumpkin Placecards

Cricut Maker or Explore
Fine point blade
Single scoring wheel
Light Grip Mat 12×24 inch
Orange and green cardstock
Black Cricut Fine Point Pen
Hot glue gun

Open image in Design Space. I enlarged it to a width of 19 inches (this was the total width for all cuts, not the individual pumpkin). Change the leaf and stem to a different color so it prompts to cut on a separate piece of paper. Next I added the writing to the leaf using the text tool. Send to cut. Follow prompts to use scoring wheel and then change back to fine point blade with pen.

You should end up with one complete pumpkin, 8 scored pumpkins, a leaf with your name, and the stem.

Gather four of the scored pumpkins. Fold each pumpkin in half and then stack them together. Hold the middle folds leaving the end folds open.

Hot glue the open ends to the pumpkin. Then begin hot gluing all of the side of one fold to the side of the other fold.

Turn over and repeat on the other side with the remaining four pieces.

Wrap the stem piece around a pen or pencil for curling effect. Hot glue leaf with name on it and the stem to the middle of the pumpkin.

How cute is that?! This is a festive addition to your Thanksgiving tablescape! These would be fun for the kids’ table too!

Materials needed to create your own Fall Leaf Garland!

Cricut Explore or Maker
Fall colored cardstock
Light grip mat
Basic tool set
Fine point blade
Glue stick
Twine or ribbon

The changing of the seasons is always special in Missouri.  We are lucky enough to have all four seasons!  Driving through the hills of the Ozarks each morning, I am blessed to watch summer change to fall and Mother Nature slowly fall asleep as winter approaches. I love leaf crafts for fall!

This SVG file includes all 3 leaf shapes.  You can cut them out with any cutting machine.  You could make a wreath with these pretty leaves too!

I love the design intricacy of these leaves.  It reminds me of Bavarian design in southern Germany.  My Cricut Maker handles the small curves and twists with ease!

I chose contrasting colors of cardstock paper to make the design more visible.  Cut the backing in one color of paper and the design part of the leaf in another color paper.  Simply glue the two pieces together to create each leaf. After they are glued together, I placed them under a heavy book to keep the leaf from curling.

In case you missed it, earlier this week I fell in love with some paper leaves and made this cute Paper Leaf Garland.  I had leftover leaves so I had to make something else!  I didn’t use this pattern because I didn’t think the brown vinyl would show very well.  I thought it would be fun to tie in the garland and made these pretty Paper Leaf Napkin Rings.  (Ok they aren’t really napkin rings but I couldn’t decide what else to call them!)

Materials needed to make Paper Leaf Napkin Rings

Cricut Explore or Maker
Leaf cut outs or scrapbook paper
Light grip mat
Basic tool set
Fine point blade
Hole punch
Twine or ribbon

But they needed a little adjustment first.

The leaves were too large so I used my Cricut to cut them down to a more manageable size. You can use scrapbook paper or whatever you have laying around. I just wanted to keep the color scheme consistent.

(Sorry for the messy cutting mat.  It’s been used a lot lately!)

Peel your cut leaf from the cutting mat. Then I punched a hole in the middle of the leaf.

Set aside your leaf with the hole in it. Tie your napkin with some twine.  Don’t tie the bow yet!

 Pull the ends of the twine through the hole of the leaf.

NOW you can tie the bow! By pulling the twine through the leaf you don’t crush the it when you tie the bow!

Super cute and easy, right?

Make your own Turkey Crayon Caddy

All you need to create your own Turkey Crayon Caddy is this Turkey Foam Craft Kit from the Dollar Tree and a small tin pail.

I set aside the foam plumage and used just the head, gobbler, eye ball, and wings.  Simply remove the sticker backing from the turkey head and adhere to the front of the pail. Add the eye, gobbler and wings to the pail.

Add the crayons in the pail to act as the turkey plumage! Every turkey will be a little different! How cute is that?!

Print up some fun Thanksgiving Printables and let the kids go to town!

Better yet, have them play with the foam turkey kit! They can create their own crayon caddies or turkeys from the kits. This project is a great activity to keep them occupied while waiting to eat.

I hope everyone is ready for Thanksgiving.  Can you believe the holidays are already here?  It seems like only yesterday, we were preparing for Easter!  When I think of the holidays, I think of the huge meal gatherings with family and friends.  Accessorize your holiday table with these Easy Chalkboard Place Cards!

Materials needed to make your own Chalkboard Place Cards

Chalkboard acrylic craft paint
Paint brush
Mini canvas and easels
Chalk

When I saw these cute little mini easels at Michael’s, I knew I had to have them!

I won’t even insult your intelligence with a step by step tutorial.  Simply paint the little square canvases with the chalkboard paint.  I recommend 2 coats for best coverage and results.  Follow the directions on the label for drying times.

Allow to dry overnight, then cure the canvas by coloring all over it with chalk and then wiping it down. This will help when you start writing on the little canvas.

These little canvases will make great place cards at the grown up table or fun projects for the little ones at the kids’ table!

There are so many ideas of things to do with these little painted canvases! You could also leave chalk at each person’s seat and ask everyone to write down what they are grateful/thankful for this year!  It’s a great way to get everyone involved and keep the true meaning of the holidays – family, friends and togetherness.

Challenge everyone at dinner to come up with something different!  These will make fun conversation starters! The possibilities are endless!
