This sign reminds me of something you would see in an old Christmas movie like “Holiday Inn” or “White Christmas”. It makes me want to settle down in a ski lodge, surrounded by snow and pine trees decorating for Christmas. This is a mini sign but you can change the sizing in Design Space to make it larger.

Materials needed for Christmas Tree Farmhouse Sign

Cricut Explore or Maker
Adhesive vinyl
Light grip mat
Basic tool set
Transfer tape
Fine point blade
Unfinished framed canvas

There are several options for finishing this piece. Choose whichever material you want to use to display this image.

1. Begin by downloading the free file below and upload into Cricut Design Space.
2. Measure your sign and size image appropriately in the software.
3. Once finalized, send the image to cut and follow directions for cutting.  
4. Weed excess vinyl away from image using the basic tool set.
5. Peel back transfer tape and place directly over the image.  Use the scraper tool to burnish image to the transfer tape.  Gently peel the transfer tape away from the vinyl backing.  The vinyl image should now be on the transfer tape.
6. Arrange the transfer tape with the vinyl image on the sign.  Burnish with scraper tool to adhere to the sign.
7. Carefully peel back the transfer tape.  Your image should now be affixed to the sign.

Materials needed for Hoop Snowman Wreath

7 inch wooden embroidery hoop
10 inch wooden embroidery hoop
White broadcloth
Birch plywood 1/32 thickness sheet
Cricut Maker
Knife blade
Fine point blade
Black iron on vinyl
Strong grip mat
Light grip mat
Cricut basic tool set
Cricut EasyPress
Hot glue gun
Scissors
Plaid Christmas ribbon
Christmas floral pick

Begin by opening Design Space and opening the top hat image listed above.  Size the image at 8 inches in width.  Load your knife blade.  Send image to cut and choose balsa 3/32 as your material.  Apply the birch to the strong grip mat and secure the edges with washi tape.  Load and cut.

1. Once wood hat is cut, set aside.  Change material to iron on vinyl.  Mirror the image.  Apply the black iron on vinyl, shiny side down, to the light grip mat.  Load and cut the hat image again.
2. Weed vinyl away from the hat.  Lay the iron on vinyl on top of the wood hat cut out.  Set EasyPress to 300 degrees for 40 seconds.  Apply EasyPress to the sandwiched hats and begin timer.  Once timer finishes, remove EasyPress and set in cradle.  Gently peel the plastic liner away.
3. Next, cut the face and button images.  Insert face image onto canvas and size to 6 inches wide.  Size buttons to 1.5 inches wide.  Send to cut.  Mirror the images, choose iron on vinyl and cut.  Weed away excess vinyl.  Apply face image to white cloth.  Set EasyPress to 315 degrees for 30 seconds.
4. Apply EasyPress to face image.  Once timer finishes, gently peel away plastic liner.
5. Place cloth with face image in the 7 inch wood embroidery hoop.
6. Weed away the excess vinyl from the buttons.  Apply to cloth.  Repeat process of applying the vinyl to the cloth with the EasyPress at same settings.  Gently peel away plastic liner.
7. Place cloth with buttons in the 10 inch wood embroidery hoop.
8. Trim excess cloth from the back of the embroidery hoops.

Assembling Your Wreath

Overlap the larger hoop with the smaller hoop.  Hot glue in place.

Pull apart the Christmas floral pick.  Choose which leaves you wish to use.

Arrange leaves and berries onto hat and hot glue into place.

Hot glue finished hat onto the top of the assembled snowman.  Add plaid Christmas ribbon between the two hoops to create a scarf.

How stinkin’ cute is that?!  I love him!

I love how it turned out!  I have him hanging inside our front door.

Have you ever seen a vintage paper Christmas village?  The pages are perforated and you can create a beautiful holiday scene with some folding and gluing.  Kind of like playing with paper dolls.  Now you can create your own using your Cricut machine!

• Cricut Maker
• Scoring wheel
• Fine point blade
• Light grip mat
• White cardstock
• Hot glue gun

I chose all white because I’m a purist when it comes to colors for my Christmas decor.  Plus, it allows me to keep it up as a “winter” village for a little longer than just the holiday season.  I sized the buildings so the largest side was 11.5 inches.  Once you have sized as you wish, send to cut.  As with previous scoring wheel posts, the software will prompt you when to use the scoring wheel and when to switch to the fine point blade.  

Fold along the scoring lines and then glue sides together with hot glue gun.  I did not use parts of the church design because I wanted it to look simple.

Add the roof and steep last and glue into place.  I have found some other 3D designs to be difficult to work with in Design Space.  These were super easy to figure out. 

Repeat the process for the other buildings.  

The best part of this design?  They make adorable luminaries!  Just add LED tea lights to enjoy in the evening too!

How sweet is that?!  I love how it glows.  This will look adorable next to my Christmas tree!

You could even add some of these Plaid Wrapped Christmas Trees to your village scene!

Materials needed for Burlap Reindeer Garland

• Burlap pennants
• Red and brown pom poms
• Googly eyes
• Brown clothespins
• Magnet or small weight (optional)
• Hot glue gun
• Baker’s twine or standard twine

I purchased the burlap pennants at Hobby Lobby but I have also seen them at Michaels.  The ones I bought come in a 4 pack.  You will need 9 pennants for this project.

Start by hot gluing the pom poms to the bottom of the pennant.  Use only one red one since there is only one Rudolf.  The rest will be non-glowing nose reindeer so you will use the brown pom poms.  Once those dry, add the googly eyes to each pennant.

Depending on where you hang this, you may need to add some weights behind the nose.  A small round magnet or weight can be hot glued to the back the pennant behind the nose.  Otherwise, I found that the clothespins cause the reindeer to end up on their heads!

Finally attach the reindeer to the baker’s twine or standard twine with the clothespin.  Angle the clothespins so they resemble antlers.

Seriously.  How cute is that?!  These would be cute for a school bulletin board or just hanging in the kitchen!  You could even purchase smaller sizes of the above supplies and use them to decorate gift boxes.  Who wouldn’t love to receive a cute little reindeer on their Christmas gift?

I used both twines for an extra layering effect!

Let It Snow Garland

This marks my first project using the knife blade too!  I cannot believe it took me so long to try it!  The chipboard snowflake and “let it snow” garland were made using the knife blade and chipboard.

Creating Chipboard Snowflakes

The image needs to be altered slightly in order to account for the thickness of the chipboard.  I created a 0.05 inches wide and 3 inches long rectangle using the shape tool.  Take the new image and lay it over the line that bifurcates the snowflake.  Select both images and hit slice.  This will widen the opening for the snowflakes to fit together.  Repeat process for the other snowflake.

Tape the edges of the chipboard directly to the mat.  This will help keep the chipboard from shifting while cutting.  Be patient!  It takes longer to cut through chipboard due to all of the layers.  It took about 1 hour for every 2 snowflakes.

It is absolutely fascinating to watch!  The more curves the project has, the more passes it will need to make – 15 passes was sufficient for these snowflakes.

Once the snowflake is complete, fit together and paint using the white acrylic craft paint.

After the second coat of paint, add white glitter before the paint dries.  This will give it a shimmery effect!

These were so much fun to make!  I followed a similar process for the chipboard letters I used for the “let it snow” garland.

The rosettes were super easy to make with the scoring wheel! 

The other 3D snowflakes were made with kraft board and are a great finishing touch!

Materials needed for Snow Globe Wreath

(2) 16 inch styrofoam wreath forms
Foam cutter
Hot glue gun
1/2 yard Mulberry Lane White Snowy Scene Dots
Plastic sheet
Christmas tree truck ornament
Bottle brush tree
2 bags of snow ball filler
Mini tree snowflake ornaments and thread
White pom poms

1. With a dry erase marker, trace the inside of the wreath form onto the plastic.  Cut about 1/2 inch outside of the traced circle.  You will need to do this twice!  Set aside.
2. Next, cut your fabric into 3 inch strips.
3. Trim the selvage.
4. Take the second foam wreath form and cut it in half so that you can stack them together to create a three inch depth.  Hot glue the two wreaths together.
5. Begin wrapping the combined wreath forms with fabric strips.  Hot glue the ends in place on the same side.  This will be the back of your wreath.  Continue wrapping strips until entire wreath form is covered with fabric.
6. Use one of the plastic circles you cut in step 1 and hot glue over the middle opening on the FRONT side of the wreath.
7. Turn wreath over.  Cut a 3 inch by 8 inch strip of plastic to place in the middle of the wreath.  This is where you will glue your ornaments and trees.  I secured the plastic in place using sewing pins.
8. Fill bottom section under plastic strip with snowball filler.
9. Hot glue the ornaments and trees onto the plastic strip.
10. String up the snowflake ornaments and pin into the top of the inside of the wreath.
11. Place the remaining snowball filler into the decorated half of the wreath.  Hot glue the other plastic circle to enclose the “snow globe”.
12. Turn wreath over.  Hot glue white pom poms around the edge of the plastic circle to conceal it.

Hang your Snow Globe Wreath with twine and ribbon to greet holiday guests!

My husband thinks this is my best Christmas wreath to date!  I have to tell you – I LOVE IT!

Funny side story:  I had a hard time titling this post.  In my head, “lit” burlap garland flowed off the tongue much better than Lighted Burlap Garland.  However, I know that lighted can also be used.  I even asked my teacher friend, Sarah at Becoming Martha, who was no help!  LOL  Had to use the power of the Internet to find my answer!  (Turns out there is something called Google that is a wealth of information!)  “Lit” is if you are using it as a verb.  “Lighted” is when you are using it as an adjective.  English lesson = done.  You can thank me later.

I love Christmas lights!  One of the first things I ever pinned was a post about wrapping ribbon around the wire part of the light string to spruce it up a bit.  Since I am going with a rustic Christmas theme this year, I decided to use burlap to create this Lighted Burlap Garland.

Materials needed to create your own Lighted Burlap Garland

Clear 100 white mini lights
Burlap ribbon in natural, red and green – you will need roughly 30 feet of each ribbon
Scissors

I cut the burlap into 8-10 inch pieces.  Then I cut those pieces vertically down the middle.  Otherwise, the ribbon is too wide and looks wonky when tied in a knot on the lights.

Choose a pattern in the order you want the colors to show.  Start tying those burlap strips around the wire.  I tied once.  You can double knot if you wish but you will need to cut longer strips than the 8-10 inches I allowed for this tutorial.

Now, throw a good movie on or Netflix and get comfy.

Repeat.  Over. And. Over.

I sat down and watched Rio with Reed while tying the burlap to the light string.  I gotta tell you.  It turned out way better than it did in my head!  I love how it looks against my mantel decorations! It’s the perfect Christmas garland!

Isn’t it pretty?

Update 2016:  Before everyone freaks out about using mini lights and garland, I have had this same strand of lighted burlap garland for three years.  I have used it pretty much non-stop during  each holiday season.  The burlap does not become warm and ignite on fire.

I also created a version for 4th of July using denim and burlap!!  I love how this Denim and Burlap Lighted Garland turned out too!

This month’s challenge for the Make It Fun Team was a chance to work with these foam sheets to create DIY Wall Art.  I could make Christmas crafts all day long.  However, I figured it would be best to come up with something that could be used throughout the rest of winter.  

To create this Snowflake Door Hanging, I used the Floracraft® Make It: Fun® foam sheet and the Styrocutter® Plus.

Materials needed to make Snowflake Door Hanging

Floracraft Make It: Fun Foam Sheet
Styrocutter Plus
Ribbon
Hot glue gun
Mod podge
Paintbrushes
Diamond dust
Scissors

I created a free printable template for you to trace and use.  You can get your free template HERE!

I printed the template and cut it out with scissors.  Pin the cut out image to the foam sheet.

Then I used the Styrocutter to cut out a foam snowflake.

Once the snowflake was cut out, I gently “sanded” the edges to smooth them out. Then, I grabbed some Mod Podge and FloraCraft® Diamond Dust to give them a shimmery frozen fractal look. Paint a light coat of mod podge on cut snowflake and then coat with diamond dust. Set aside and let dry.

Repeat the above process for two more snowflakes.

Then I hot glued the finished snowflakes to a piece of silver ribbon and added a bow! I turned the middle snowflake to give it some dimension.

I LOVE how it turned out!  You cannot even tell this is foam!

 Bonus:  If you are throwing a Frozen party, this would make a great decoration too!  Who knew you could make such adorable things out of foam? You have to have a styrocutter! It’s a must have crafting tool!
