Furniture DIY {Mommy’s Timeout Chair}

This furniture DIY has been a month in the making!  I am so excited to be sharing this with all of you – finally!  This chair has been the big project that I’ve been working on for the past month and part of the reason I have not had much to post as of late.  Mommy’s Timeout Chair is my first furniture DIY!  Finally, a place for me to sit on the deck, drink coffee and read Facebook a good book!

Here is its story…

Once upon a time, a girl fell in love with a chair.  The aforementioned girl came up with a brilliant plan for painting this unfinished chair.  Because this girl always has “lofty” ideas (that are not always completely thought through), she went to Home Depot with every intention of purchasing this chair.  Unfortunately, said chair came in pieces and was not put together.  {Girl’s dad and husband refused to put it together – stating it was HER project.}

This crafty girl would not be discouraged by the nay-sayers.  She purchased the lovely chair and matching side table (because if you’re going to go big, you might as well do it right).

As soon as she opened the box, the fresh smell of the unfinished pine tickled her nose.  She knew she had done the right thing.  The directions were easy enough to follow and it wasn’t in a million pieces (only eight).

 With the assistance of her trusty cordless drill, a wrench and a prayer, she managed to assemble the chair and table and they were structurally sound!

Once the chair and matching side table were assembled and deemed safe, the girl went about priming the precious pine.  {Pine is super absorbant and it required quite a bit of patience and time to coat the chair.}

Because the girl wanted the chair to be fun and summer-y, she chose an aqua color palette from Behr.  The base coat is a matte finish and the color is Shallow Sea.  It took two coats to get it completely covered.

The girl taped the chevron pattern on the back of the chair and on the top of the table.  The chevron pattern is a gloss finish and is called Tropical Tide. {Also two coats so the pattern would “pop”!}

Once said furniture dried, it was carefully and lovingly placed on the deck.  The furniture DIY was a success!  As much as the girl loves her new Mommy’s Timeout Chair, the little boy loves it too!

    Great story, and fabulous chair! Love the color and the chevron pattern. You should be very proud of yourself for doing the whole thing, start to finish! Make sure hubby and dad don’t get to sit in it since they wouldn’t help!! Thanks for linking at Shine on Fridays!

    Love the blue chevron. Especially since as I happened upon this I am taking a break from painting my second batch of identical home depot chairs. We bought a set two years ago and liked them so much I am painting up and assembling 2 more.

      How fun is that?! I love those chairs! Once we have our new house built, I will be purchasing more!

    Just finished the second coat. Ours are now fire engine red. We painted before assembly. It is marginally easier to get to all of the crevices.
