I bought this old farmhouse desk at a thrift store for $15.  That was a year and a half ago.  It’s been sitting in my garage taking up space.  Recently, I was looking at it and discovered it matched my living room furniture.  I’ve been looking for something for our entry way for a while now and just could not find anything I liked.  I got the idea that if I reduced the depth and removed the rotted lower shelf, it would fit perfectly!  I turned that old desk into this Farmhouse Style Entry Way Table with some help from DecoArt’s Chalky Finish Paint!

Just to give you an idea, this is what I started with…

It was a little beat up but I could definitely see the potential.  She just needed some body work and a fresh coat of paint!

I demo’d the desk and stripped all of the paint off.

Kyle and I began the laborious process of sanding down all that wood.  Turned out to be a beautiful oak under about 10 coats of paint!

Once we got her all put back together, it was time for her beauty lift!

I flipped her over and began painting with the Chalky Finish paint in Everlasting.  It only required two coats to cover!  And if you’ve ever painted with white paint, it can take up to 4 coats before the wood is totally covered.  I allowed it to dry overnight.

Next, I taped off the white so I could begin painting the top in Rustic.

Again, it coated beautifully!  I used two coats again.  Once the top was dry, I wanted to give it an antiqued look.  I used the a coat of the Clear Cream Wax followed by Creme Wax in Golden Brown.  The clear coat prevents the brown coat from staining the paint.  Using a lint free rag, I coated the top and edges of the table.  The darker wax adds dimension to the color by soaking in deeply into crevices and cracks.

The pic below shows how it picks up the natural grain of the wood.  Looks like stain but the old wood is covered better!

Finally, using a sponge brush, I covered the whole table with the Light Satin Varnish to protect the surface from Reed.  LOL

Once it was dry, I reattached the old handle and took her to her new home by the front door.

I am over the moon with how it turned out!  This old farm desk has turned into a stunning entry way table!  And if you look closely, you can see how it compliments my other furniture.

I can’t stop looking at it!  Even as I sit here on the couch finishing this post, it makes me smile!
