Mason Jar Fall Luminary

We have been so inspired by all of the beautiful fall decor that has been popping up in stores lately!  The crisp, warm colors of fall are so inviting.  You don’t have to spend a lot of money on fancy fall decor when you can make your own, and this year I am bound and determined to change that.  

We whipped up this cute Mason Jar Fall Luminary in no time at all. This would also make a wonderful classroom or craft activity. The supplies for this fall craft activity as so simple. With just a few supplies needed, this is an affordable fall or Halloween craft, and the process of making these homemade mason jar luminaries is enjoyable and fun!

Materials needed to create Mason Jar Fall Luminary

• Cricut Maker or Explore
• Adhesive vinyl
• Mason jar
• Acrylic craft paint
• Foam brush
• Twine
• Votive candles and filler

How to Make Fall Luminary Jars

1. I began by cutting out a maple leaf of adhesive vinyl with my Cricut Explore.  If you don’t have a cutting machine, you can trace and cut out a leaf design on adhesive vinyl.
2. Apply the cut vinyl maple leaf to the smooth side of the mason jar.
3. Pick an acrylic paint color that you want to use.  I chose persimmon for fall.
4. Begin painting a thin coat of paint on the mason jar. Pro tip:  I use a foil cupcake liner for my paint!  It makes clean up a breeze!
5. Be sure you allow the paint to dry completely between each coat.  Otherwise, it will clump and pull away from the glass.  It took about 3 coats for it to be completely covered.
6. Once the mason jar is dry, gently peel away the vinyl leaf decal.  Touch up any rough edges with a small paintbrush.

I added some corn kernels to the bottom and placed the votive candle inside like I did for my Thanksgiving mantel.  Add some twine or ribbon around the top of the jar to finish it off!

Super cute and adds just a hint of fall color and decor to any home! Plus it looks beautiful lit up in the evenings!

Thanksgiving is a time for gathering in the heart of the home – the kitchen. So naturally, I decorate my kitchen and eating space for the holiday. Over the years I have made these cute Stamped Place Mats and Gold Leaf Placecards. These kitchen towels are super easy to whip up with our free files!

Materials needed to make your own Thanksgiving Kitchen Towels

Cricut Explore or Maker
Black iron on vinyl
Light grip mat
Basic tool set
Fine point blade
White kitchen towel
EasyPress 
EasyPress Mat

1. Begin by downloading the free file below and upload it into Cricut Design Space.
2. Measure your tea towel and size the image appropriately in the software.
3. Once finalized, send the image to cut and follow directions for cutting.  
4. Don’t forget to mirror your image as you are working with iron on vinyl.  Otherwise your design will be backwards.
5. Repeat above process for each color layer.
6. Weed excess vinyl away from image using the basic tool set.
7. Set EasyPress to 315 degrees.  Pre-heat towel for 5 seconds.  Arrange image on towel.  Apply heat and pressure for 30 seconds.  Flip material over and apply heat for an additional 15 seconds.
8. Peel away clear liner while warm.

How to Create a Thanksigving Kid’s Table

1. Use melamine or paper flatware to avoid breakage.
2. Make it interactive!  The more activities and fun the better.  Kraft paper tablecloths or table runners with crayons may be all you need!  Throw in a couple of those fun party printables or placemats too.
3. Provide party favors to take home and memorialize the day.  Those cornucopias are darling and the craft bag will keep them entertained long after the meal.
4. Colorful decorations make it seem inviting and more fun to sit at the kid’s table.
5. If all else fails, crayons.  Crayons will keep them happy.  LOL

I usually find fun kid’s table accessories at Wal-mart around the holidays.  Last year we grabbed a paper tablecloth that had all sorts of fun activities on it.  Get creative and make the day memorable for everyone!

I love leaf garland but sometimes it can look inexpensive and crappy. And I do not want to spend $15 on an 8 feet piece of decor that I can buy at our local dollar store.  This is a cheap way to add some personality to your fall decor.  I’m going to warn you though, it can be a bit messy but the end result is totally worth it.

Materials needed for Glitter Dipped Leaf Garland

• Leaf garland
• Mod podge
• Gold glitter
• Painters tape

I prefer the sparkle mod podge when working with glitter.  Depending on your garland will depend on how you tape this off.  My garland had removal leaves.  I removed the leaves and then taped them to the back of some old wrapping paper.  You will add the tape down the middle of the leaf horizontally.  Apply the mod podge to the top part of the leaf.

Add the gold glitter to the area with the mod podge and allow to dry for one hour.

After one hour, carefully remove the tape and shake off any excess glitter.  (There will be a lot of excess glitter but that’s because you were meant to sparkle!!)

After the tape has been removed, re-attach the leaves to the garland.  If your garland does not have removable leaves, just tape the whole thing down on the wrapping paper.

I love the pop of glam it adds to my decor!  It’s so pretty and vibrant!  You could wrap it around a wreath form and make a beautiful fall wreath for your front door!

How gorgeous is that?!  I love the warm gold tones of fall and the gold glitter really makes the leaves pop!  Rose gold would be pretty on this too.  This would look amazing on your Thanksgiving tablescape.  Consider adding these Gold Leaf Placecards too!

For these pretty placecards, you will need wooden leaf cutouts, gold leaf adhesive, gold leaf, and gold leaf sealer.

Most gold leaf kits will tell you not to use too thick of a layer of adhesive.  For this project, you will need to use a thick layer because some of it does get soaked up by the wood.

It will take about 30-45 minutes to dry.  Add a second coat if it does not feel sticky after it dries.

Lay the gold leaf face down over the leaf.  Brush it on through the vellum layer.

Once you feel like you have a good amount on, remove the layer and excess gold leaf.  Dry brush until smooth.  If there are any empty spots, add a little more gold leaf and brush smooth until completely covered.

Add a coat of sealer to hold the gold leaf in place.

Grab some letter stickers from the local craft store and add everyone’s names!

It looks so pretty and classy!

I started by cutting out some stencils out of adhesive vinyl.  You can use a cutting machine or simply trace something on the back and cut with scissors.  Remove the leaf.

Adhere vinyl stencil to front of pumpkin.

Add a thin layer of gold leaf adhesive.  Allow 30-45 minutes to dry.

Place gold leaf face down on stencil and dry brush over the vellum backing.  Once the entire stencil area is covered, remove the remaining gold leaf.

 Dry brush the gold leaf until smooth.  For any empty spots, add a small amount of gold leaf and smooth back down.

Remove the adhesive vinyl stencil.

Add a thin coat of sealer over the stenciled area to secure the gold leaf to the pumpkin.

Aren’t they gorgeous?  Simple and classy.

I adore them!!  They look perfect on my fall porch!  Have you ever used gold leaf?  It’s so much fun!  I’m kind of addicted to it now!

These paper leafs were 98 cents!  Woot!

I used some brown vinyl and cut out the letters.  But you can use stickers or chipboard letters too!

Punch a hole in the top of each leaf.

Thread the twine through the holes and VOILA!  All finished!

This Paper Leaf Garland would look great above the dinner table or hung along the food table for Thanksgiving!

Or use it as classroom decor!

And I just love this color combo of aqua, orange and gold!  So pretty!

I created some stencils out of adhesive vinyl.

Weed out the letters.  Place the vinyl in the lower right hand corner of the placemat.

Be sure to place some craft paper or newspaper under the placemat before you start painting.  The burlap is porous and you can get paint all over everything!  Eek!

Once you have everything in place, begin painting the stencil.

Allow paint to dry completely.  Slowly remove the vinyl.

Seriously.  How cute are these?!

So easy and they look adorable!

Thanksgiving will be here before you know it!  Are you hosting this year?  

We love to host Thanksgiving dinner! Lucky for me, the husband does all the cooking. I’m in charge of ambience. To spruce up the dinner table, I whipped up these Gold Pumpkin Votives. 

Gold Pumpkin Votives

One thing that I love about these DIY pretty pumpkin candle holders is that they actually also work for Halloween, so make them early and then move the right to the holiday table for Thanksgiving. So pretty and so easy! 

To create your own Gold Pumpkin Votives, you will need:

• Small pumpkins
• Drill and wood bit (1 1/4 size)
• Small paring knife
• Gold spray paint
• Votives

I kind of love any project where I can use my power tools!

How to Turn Mini Pumpkins into Candle Votives 

1. Slowly drill into the center of your pumpkin. *I went with a wood bit that was smaller than the votive because I did not want to crack the pumpkin from the force.

2. Scoop out the pumpkin innards.

3. Gently trim the edge of the hole with the paring knife.  Slowly cut away to make room for the votive.

4. Once the pumpkin has been hulled and the opening is the size of the votive, it’s time to spray paint!

5. Apply a couple of light coats of spray paint to completely cover.

6. Allow the paint to dry over night before placing the votive in the pumpkin and lighting.

I love it’s simplicity!
