While researching everything we needed to create our own organic garden, my husband decided it would be a good idea to build a compost pile.  Compost works as a great fertilizer without any harsh chemicals!  And it doesn’t have to cost an arm and leg to make it either!  This DIY Compost can be made for less than $25!

Composting entails taking wet organic matter and allowing it to fester.  You need a shady spot near a water source.  We use ours for fruits and vegetables, sticks, bark, dirt, etc.  Every couple of days, we wet it down and mix it up.  Of course, this won’t be ready for this year but will allow for great fertilization next year!

To create this, all you need is eight landscaping timbers and a saw.  Landscaping timbers are 8 feet in length.  We cut all of them in to 4 foot sections.  Then we hauled them to the backyard.

We aren’t fancy.  The wagon worked just as well as a wheelbarrow.

Reed unloaded it all by himself!  He conquered the pile and requested a picture.  (Goofball.)

Then we just Lincoln logged them together!  This allows it to get plenty of air to promote degradation.

They are not secured with nails or bolts.  It withstood 60 mph wind gusts during a thunderstorm the other night.

How easy was that?!
