Creating these 3D Paper Gems is a breeze with the Cricut Scoring Wheel! Creates perfect folds every time even with thicker materials!
The double scoring wheel is life changing! Finally, you can achieve perfect folds on thicker materials without cracking or strange rippling of the material. It creates two parallel creases which allows for easier folding of these thicker materials. These folds are better achieved when you fold into the scored lines. A great tip for working with these materials is to lay the material “pretty side” down on the mat. This will also reduce cracking. If your design is not symmetrical, you will need to mirror the image.
Note: If your project contains writing on the image that needs to be scored with the double wheel, be aware that, because you’re scoring the back side of your material, you will be writing on the inside of your project instead of the outside.

Materials needed for 3D Paper Gems
Images used for this project:
- Gem Box #MC3C868
- Gem Box #MC3C848
I also created the treasure box from Design Space. I will not be going into detail of assembly in this post but if you wish to make that too here is the image number:
- Treasure Chest #M1159336
I did not re-size these images. Once you send it to the cut screen and choose your material (shimmer paper), Design Space will prompt you to load the double scoring wheel. Place the shimmer paper, pretty side down, on the cutting mat. Click Go.
Carefully remove from the cutting mat. Fold towards the scored lines. Again, this will prevent cracking of the shimmer paper.
Hot glue the bottom of the gem in place.
Finally, hot glue the top of the gem in place. Repeat process for each gem.
These are perfect for a pirate party or even an engagement party!
