These Clothespin Airplanes are a fun craft project to do with the kids!
Reed turned three this last weekend! Ever since we went on the “hairplane with PaPa” this summer {yes, that’s how he pronounces it}, Reed has been talking about an airplane themed party. I scoured Pinterest for ideas and saw these adorable clothespin airplanes from Oriental Trading and thought they would be perfect for party favors. But they didn’t have them in the colors I wanted so I decided to improvise.
I love how they turned out! Most importantly, Reed loves them!

To make your own clothespin airplanes:
- 2 large craft sticks
- 2-4 mini craft sticks
- Wooden craft bead
- 1 clothespin
- Craft paint
Take apart your clothespin and set the spring aside. Paint the clothespin and craft sticks in colors of your choosing with the craft paint. I used little wooden beads for the front of the propeller.
A wooden kabob skewer works great for holding these beads while painting!
Once everything has dried, reassemble the clothespin. Use your hot glue cut to glue the wings, propeller, and rudder back to the clothespin. Position the clothespin with the closed end facing you. Hot glue a large craft stick on top, about 2/3 of the way towards the closed end. Repeat with a large glue stick on the bottom of the clothespin. Glue a mini craft stick on the end of the clothespin farthest from you. Then add the propeller. You can glue one of two mini sticks to the front for the propeller. Finally finish it off with the wooden bead.
I ended up using these to hold little thanks yous in the favor bag!

After the glue and paint has dried, they will spend hours playing with a toy they just made! If it breaks, no biggie!
