Chinese New Year start February 19th! 2015 is the Year of the Ram or Goat and the beginning of the Spring Festival. One of the most common practices during Chinese New Year is passing out red envelopes. Red is the traditional color used because red is considered lucky and it is thought to fight off the monster Nian who comes out of New Years Eve. This Chinese New Year Craft is a paper take out box filled with fortune cookies is a fun take on this tradition!
To create this Chinese Take Out Box, I used my Cricut Explore. I used image #MF81FF from the Sweet Tooth Boxes cartridge.
You will need to cut TWO of the large red piece to create the box. I used gold adhesive vinyl to cut the pagoda and lettering.
Assembly is easy! Simply glue the flaps of the large red piece the smaller pieces.
I cut the image of the pagoda and the wording on gold vinyl to keep with the Chinese New Year theme. Apply to the vinyl to the assembled box.
Isn’t this fun?! I love how it turned out and the boys love having a box of fortune cookies! Do you have any favorite Chinese New Year traditions?
