Materials needed for Mom Life Tshirt

Cricut Explore or Maker
White iron on vinyl
Light grip mat
Basic tool set
Transfer tape
Fine point blade
Favorite color tshirt
EasyPress 
EasyPress Mat

1. Begin by downloading the free file below and upload into Cricut Design Space.
2. Measure your tshirt and size image appropriately in the software.
3. Once finalized, send the image to cut and follow directions for cutting.  
4. Don’t forget to mirror your image as you are working with iron on vinyl.  Otherwise your design will be backwards.
5. Weed excess vinyl away from image using the basic tool set.
6. Set EasyPress to 315 degrees.  Pre-heat tshirt for 5 seconds.  Arrange image on tshirt.
7. Apply heat and pressure for 30 seconds.  Flip material over and apply heat for an additional 15 seconds.
8. Peel away clear liner while warm.

Mothers Day Photo Album Supplies

Chipboard photo album
Cricut Sticker paper
Cutting mat
Exacto knife
Hold punch
Scrapbook paper
Letter stickers
Mod Podge
Photos of you and Mom
Washi tape
Paper flowers
Hot glue gun

1. Use Exacto knife to cut away center of album cover.
2. Place album cover on scrapbook paper and cut around edge of album cover.
3. Cut the middle of the album cover with exacto knife.
4. Line up scrapbook paper and chipboard cover.  Mark where the holes are.  Punch holes in scrapbook paper.
5. Use a thin layer of Mod Podge to adhere scrapbook paper to album cover.
6. Once dry, add letter stickers to title your album.

Repeat steps 2-5 for each page of the album.  Be sure to cover the front and back of each page.  Once dry, add the rings included with the chipboard album to keep it together.

I embellished the front cover with some of these paper flowers.  You can find all sorts of embellishments in the scrapbook aisle of your local craft store.

Finish your album by adding your favorite pictures and our printable questionnaire about Mom!

You can spruce up these pages with a little washi tape or stickers.  Let the kids have fun and make it really special and from the heart.

You can do this one of two ways, you can purchase white linen napkins and stencil.  OR you can purchase tea towels, cut and hem them and then stencil.  If you are handy with a sewing machine, it will be much cheaper to buy and cut the tea towels.  I will walk you through the stenciling in this tutorial.

Here’s what you need to create your own Stenciled Napkins:

Flour Sack Kitchen Towels OR white linen napkins (I purchased these tea towels at Target and they are 4 for $4.)
Stencils (I used Martha Stewart stencils purchased from Michaels.)
Multi Purpose Craft Paint (I used the Americana brand from Michaels which can be used on fabric.)
Foam stencil brushes

These are the towels from Target.  Open up the towels and cut into quarters.  Then I hemmed the unfinished edges on my sewing machine.  This whole process took me 10 minutes.  Again, I’m not going to go into detail.  If you have questions, feel free to email me.

Place a piece of paper behind the area of fabric you are stenciling.  The paint will bleed through the fabric and you will need to protect the surface you are working on.

Place the stencil on the area you want to paint.  Tape over any areas of the stencil that are close to the area you are painting so you don’t accidentally bleed the paint.

Begin by dipping you foam stencil brush in the paint.  Dab off the excess paint on a paper towel BEFORE you begin stenciling.  Again, you are trying to avoid the paint bleeding around the stencil.

Carefully begin dabbing the stencil from the middle towards the outside.  Continue this process until you have covered the entire area you are stenciling.

Remove the stencil and set aside the napkin to dry.

These Stenciled Napkins turned out so cute!  This is a great project to get the kids involved in.  Of course, they will require supervision to make sure the entire house does not end up painted in the process.

I made a couple of different ones to show you some different designs.

This time of year is always bittersweet since my own mother passed away almost 25 years ago.  She was taken from this world too early.  But I take comfort in knowing I have the best guardian angel a girl could ask for.  I love when people tell me I remind them of her.  That is the best compliment I can receive.  I’m a critical care nurse just like she was.  I have modeled my adult life after the most caring, funny, fiercely loyal woman I had the chance to know, albeit brief.

Despite losing her too soon, I have found renewed love of the holiday since having a child of my own.  It warms my heart to get those special gifts made by tiny hands to treasure for years to come.  You know the ones I’m speaking of – the handprint or footprint designed pictures with the sentimental poems guaranteed to mess up your mascara.  Since the schools have us covered on that front, let’s focus on what we as adults can make our mothers to honor them.  What do you want to give your mom this year or even your best friend to honor HER as a mother?  Let’s celebrate by lifting each other up as women!  Mom is sure to love any of these Handmade Mothers Day Gifts!

I think my mom would have loved that Mason Jar Frame Vase!  It would have looked perfect in her living room.  I think the Mom Binder is another great idea!  It’s a place where she can store those precious little pictures from the kiddos over the years!  She can even add grandkid pictures and artwork to it as she moves into that stage in her life.

As I sit here writing this post, I am caught up in feelings of reminiscence and nostalgia.  You see, this post is both a Mother’s Day and wedding post – a tribute to my mom.  As you know, my sister got married last weekend.  What you may not have known was that it would have been my mother’s 62nd birthday.  My sister wanted her “something old” to be a tribute to our mom.  She wanted to create handkerchiefs from my mom’s wedding dress.  At first, I was appalled.  I did NOT want to cut up her dress.  Then my husband said, “Are you upset about cutting the dress or that you didn’t think of it for ours?”  Well played, sir.  It hurts my heart that I didn’t think of it for my own wedding.  As Jennifer’s wedding drew closer, she gave up on the idea because she did not think there would be enough time to create ten of these herself.  That’s when my dad and I decided to make these Monogrammed Handkerchiefs for her.

 So I took a trip to St. Louis to my dad’s house.  We got on Facetime and opened up Mom’s dress box.

Jennifer wanted me to try on the dress.  It fit perfectly!  Which is kinda cool because it was custom made for my mom.

(Pardon my lack of make-up, it was late evening.)

After inspecting the dress, I had a scathingly brilliant idea.  The train was removable.  We could create the handkerchiefs from the train and maintain the integrity of the dress!

The train was a lace overlay with lace trim.  All handstitched.  Dad and I had our work cut out for us.

First, we had to remove the lace trim.

Then we had to remove the lace over lay from the other fabric.

 Once it was all taken apart, we cut 10 inch x 10 inch squares out of the cream fabric and 10 inch by 10 inch squares from the lace.

Next came the painful experience of trying to configure my embroidery machine.  This was the first time I had used it!  It took 5 hours and lots of math to get it centered and just how we wanted it.

We embroidered by mom’s monogram followed by the wedding date (which is also her birthday).

I bought the dissolving stabilizer.  Once it was dissolved, we let them air dry overnight.  The next morning, we ironed them flat and began sewing.

I attached the monogrammed piece of fabric and the lace (right sides together).

Stitch around all edges leaving a 5 inch gap to turn right side out.

Turn right side out.  Fold the rough edges in and pin in place.  Top stitch around all four edges to give it a completed look.

To finish it, I handstitched some of the lace to the corner.

The packaging is from Le Box Boutique on Etsy!  Love that shop and she lives close to me!

My sister created an insert for each package that read as below…

And we handed them out at the rehearsal dinner to all of my mom’s immediate family.

The cool thing is that it is a gift from all FOUR of us which hasn’t happened in over 25 years.  Dad and I made these handkerchiefs from Mom’s dress for Jennifer’s wedding.  A great tribute to our mom for Mother’s Day and Jennifer’s special day!
