Get your kids excited about reading with these Paper Animal Bookmarks using the Cricut Scoring Wheel!

If you were here last week, you saw that Cricut released a new tool for their Adaptive Tool System called the Cricut Scoring Wheel!  This tool is only available for the Cricut Maker because it contains the drive mechanism for this tool system.

with ease, including breathtaking wearable art, 3D home decor, sculptures, and more, with ease.

Materials needed for Paper Animal Bookmarks

• Cricut Maker
• Cricut scoring wheel
• Fine point blade
• Jewel Cardstock Sampler 12×12
• Sorbet Cardstock Sampler 12×12
• Basic Cardstock Sampler 12×12
• Light Grip Mat 12×12
• Hot glue gun

For this project, I used the following Design Space images:

• Snake Book Corner #M456F5
• Lion Book Corner #M406D8
• Shark Book Corner #M44C3B
• Gorilla Book Corner #M45EE6

I opened those images, one at a time, in Design Space.  There is no need to re-size them.  Pick the colors of paper you wish to use and proceed to the cut screen.  (These cardstock packs are by no means the only colors you can use.  Those just happen to be the packs I had at home.) 

Since there are scoring lines included in the design, Design Space will prompt you which scoring wheel to use.  This will depend on the material you pick.  We are working with card stock therefore the software will suggest the single scoring wheel.  You can tell by the number on the side of the wheel.  The single wheel is designated as 01.  Design Space will let you know when to place it in the machine based on the cut layers.  The single wheel creates a single crease on the cardstock.  It is perfect for use with thin papers to cardstock. 

Look at those beautiful creases!

Fold the large piece along the crease lines and secure with the hot glue gun.

Assembling the Paper Animal Bookmarks

Once your large piece is folded and glued into a diamond, add the long light green piece in the center of the diamond and glue in place.

Next add the white piece with the fangs and glue.

The red piece that will be seen for the snake eyes is next.

Finally add the smaller light green piece with the eye holes.  Glue in place.  Be careful not to glue under the eye holes like I did.  (Blogger fail.)

I made several of these for my kiddo and I can tell you that using the scoring wheel even on this simple project saved me a ton of time.  Usually, I would have to use a ruler and exact a crease prior to folding.  This usually results in me cussing at the paper because I cannot get the fold exact.  But the scoring wheel changes all that!

Reed loves them!  And I have to admit, they are pretty stinkin’ cute.

Another school year is back in full swing.  This year is the first where we have packed lunches.  It’s only the end of September and I’m already struggling for ideas!  Add some variety to your kid’s lunches with this fun DIY Apple Print Lunchbag craft project and products from Lay’s Kettle Cooked Chips and Martha Stewart Crafts.

To create this DIY Apple Print Lunchbag, you will need:

Apple
Knife
Paintbrush
Martha Stewart Crafts multi surface craft paint
Markers (optional)
Canvas or brown paper lunch bag

Cut an apple in half from top to bottom.  Make sure the cut is smooth and flat.

Use a paintbrush to apply paint evenly over the cut side of the apple.

With the apple half, cut side down, stamp the surface of the canvas bag.  The more times you stamp, the less vivid the print will be, so reapply paint, or use the other half.

Use additional apple halves to print with different colors, if desired.  To draw stems and leaves, use black or green markers (or paint).

Apples aren’t just for eating.  The cut side of an apple half, dipped in candy colored paint, can be stamped onto an otherwise ordinary canvas lunchbag to create this DIY Apple Print Lunchbag.  Now what to pack?  Easy to store and the perfect snack, Lay’s Kettle Cooked Chips are a simple solution for school lunches.

It’s finally fall!  I decided I would take a break from all of the Halloween posts and share a fun apple idea!  I love going to the orchard and coming home with bags full of fresh apples!  Since there are no orchards in SW Missouri, I pick extra to give to friends.  These Apple Stamped Gift Bags are the perfect gift!

This is a simple craft and a great activity for kids!

Here’s what you need:

Jute gift bags

Red and green acrylic craft paint

Apple

Sponge brush

Prep your bags by placing a piece of paper inside so the paint doesn’t bleed through.

Cut an apple in half and grab some red and green acrylic craft paint.

Paint the cut side of the apple.  Gently press onto the front of the jute bag and remove.

How cool is that?

Once the paint is dry, remove the paper and they are ready to use.

You could even use this method on a canvas for a fun fall decoration!  The possibilities are endless!

I love how these turned out!  I made three of these in less than 10 minutes!

I love the school bus!  I used #M4542A from the Recess image set.

Since I had all of this blank space, I decided to create a school rules subway art for the other side of the lunchbox.

Just some simple rules to remember when going to school and getting along with your classmates!  Reed has asked me to read it to him so many times, he has memorized it!

But by far, my favorite part of this Personalized Lunchbox is the built in message board!

Using chalkboard adhesive vinyl, I measured the space and set the Cricut Explore to cut it to size.  Once it was applied, I thought it was a little plain so I went ahead and added that cute little apple in the right lower corner.

How much fun is that?!  You can totally leave notes each day like, “Have a great day!” or “Good luck on your test!”

If your little one isn’t in school yet, you could even use this as an activity box!  Throw in some sidewalk chalk and let your kiddo create!

To make these 3D Apple Magnets, you will need:

And old book

Apple template

Pencil

Scissors/Exacto knife

Hot glue gun

Markers

Sticks

Green cardstock

I began by removing the cover and back of the book.  Then, I free handed half an apple on the cover of the book and cut it out.  Place the apple template on the edge of the book and trace.

Using scissors or an Exacto knife, start cutting through multiple pages.  I would cut about 20 pages at a time.  Keep cutting until you have about 1/2 inch thick.

Remove the pages you cut.  Place a strip of hot glue along the binding.

Once it is dry, turn around and color the edges with your marker.

Next, I cut traced the apple on another piece of the cover to use as backing.  Trace one side and then flip it over and trace it again.

Cut out your apple backing.

Open the apple up and glue the outer edges to the cardboard backing.

Glue a stick and small cut out leaf to the back of the apple.

Finally, add a magnet and you are ready to go!

Isn’t it adorable?

Now I know I will probably get some people not liking the fact that I used an actual book but it was headed for the trash.  I consider that an upcycle!

Here’s the scoop.  Cricut divided us into teams and challenged each team to come up with a project for home decor.  Since I am a proud member of Team 5.  We decided our home decor project should include or feature the number “five”.  {Today’s number is 5!}  I created this Clipboard Kids Art Display with 5 artistic and creative quotes that would be perfect for any kids playroom.  And it looks great with or without artwork!

This tiny wall is in the Man Cave.  That is what my husband and son have officially named their playroom/den above the garage.  I apologize for the strange angle on the pictures.

To create this Clipboard Kids Art Display, you will need:

Cricut Explore

Adhesive vinyl

Transfer tape

Clipboards

I created these quotes as a PNG file in Picmonkey then uploaded them into Design Space.  Size to adequately fit your clipboard and begin cutting.

Once your design is cut, weed the extra vinyl from the lettering and cut a piece of transfer tape to the size of your image.

 Slowly, peel back the transfer tape and lay it on the image {sticky side down}.  Use your scraper to make sure the vinyl adheres well to the transfer tape.

 Peel the transfer tape from the backing.  The vinyl should be stuck to the sticky side of the transfer tape.

Apply to the clipboard.  Once you are sure it is centered, press down.  Use the scraper to press the vinyl on the clipboard.  Carefully remove the transfer tape.  Your image will be stuck to the clipboard!

Keep repeating until you have all of the clipboards done!

I love vinyl!  You can put it on everything!

Reed loves that he has somewhere to display all of his artwork!  How cute is that muddy pig?
