A couple of weeks ago, I fell in LOVE with the Riley Blake Stars and Stripes fabric line. {I may or may not have a slight fabric addiction. hee hee} The down home Americana feel to the patterns and patriotic red, white and blue scream summer and 4th of July! My Firecracker Rag Wreath from last 4th of July was a huge hit and I wanted to do something similar but with an updated feel. I have a super easy tutorial for creating YOUR own Stars and Stripes Rag Wreath!
Wanna make your own Stars and Stripes Rag Wreath?
Here’s what you need:
Riley Blake Stars and Stripes Fat Quarter Bundle
Cutting mat
Acrylic Ruler
Rotary cutter
Wire wreath form
Painted wooden letters {optional}
Start by cutting your fabric into 6 inch x 1 inch strips. Turn each fat quarter length wise on your cutting mat, cutting into 6 inch strips. Then stack the 6 inch strips on top of each other and lay horizontally on your cutting mat. Cut 1 inch strips from that stack of fabric. Repeat process with all fabrics in the bundle.
Throw all of the strips into a plastic grocery bag for ease. Begin tying the strips to your wreath form. I started with the inner ring and worked to the outer ring. I also had a pattern in my head to keep it organized and even but to give it a “random” look.
Continue this process until the wreath is full. Throw a movie in the DVD player and start tying those strips on. It took me the whole movie to complete.
Once the wreath is finished, I hot glued my painted wooden letters to the wreath.
There is something about a rag wreath that screams homemade and looks very country shabby chic!
A huge thanks to The Ribbon Retreat for the awesome Riley Blake fabric!!
