A couple of weeks ago, I was contacted by Wendy at Artsy Chaos. Artsy Chaos is an Etsy shop that features one of a kind unfinished wood crafts! When she told me she wanted to send me something to decorate for Valentine’s Day, I was like, “Yes please!”. These SMOOCH letters were exactly what I was hoping she would send! I decided to create these Mod Podge Wooden Letters for Valentine’s Day – perfect for my mantel!
The letters are made from 1 and 1/8 inch high quality medium density fiberboard {MDF}.
Wanna learn how to make your own Mod Podge Wooden Letters for Valentine’s Day?
Here’s what you need:
Unfinished wooden letters from Artsy Chaos {click here to check out their shop!}
Scrapbook paper
Pencil and scissors
Paint and paintbrush
Mod Podge
Glitter
Sand paper block
- Lay your wooden letter right side down on the scrapbook paper and trace with pencil. Repeat this step with each letter.
- Cut out your tracing. Repeat this step with each tracing.
- Paint the unfinished wooden letters in color of your choosing. I chose red to go with my scrapbook paper selection. Set aside to dry.
- Grab your Mod Podge and paintbrush.
- Liberally coat the front of the letter with Mod Podge. Repeat this step with each letter.
- Carefully line up the scrapbook paper tracings. Lay scrapbook paper side down on wax paper to dry. Repeat this step with each letter. Allow 24 hours to dry.
- Liberally coat the front of the lips with Mod Podge. Place the lips (Mod Podge side down) in glitter. Set aside to dry.
- Carefully sand the excess paper off the edges of the letters. Sanding the edges gives it a fun distressed look.
- Apply coat of Mod Podge to edge of each letter to seal the scrapbook paper.
Let me tell you how awesome these were to work with! Due to the high quality MDF, I was able to only use one coat of paint to fully cover each letter! {Unlike the pine wood ones you get from the craft store which require oodles of paint to fully coat.}
The bottom of each letter are flat so they stand up without much fuss!
How stinkin’ cute are they? I just love the idea of using the lips for the “o’s”.
And in case you miss out on the V-day rush, they just added some unfinished shamrocks and leprechaun shoes for St. Paddy’s Day! {I just ordered this cute little owl to use on my spring mantel! Eeek!!}
Make sure you check out the Artsy Chaos shop! You won’t be disappointed!
