A couple of months ago at SNAP conference, I was introduced to a new product from DMC – stitchable cork!  It’s so cute and trendy!  Instantly I wanted to make jewelry with it.  Cork is so hot right now!  I was inspired after creating my Craft Foam Earrings!

Supplies for Cork Earrings!

Stitchable cork with gold flecks
Faux leather
1.5 inch hole punch
Standard single hole punch
Fabric glue
Fish hook earrings and jump rings
Needle nose pliers

I tried cutting the cork fabric on the Cricut Maker.  Unfortunately, I was unable to get it to adhere to any of the mats.  The fabric on the back of the stitchable cork would not adhere to anything.  I’m not sure if it was because it came in a roll and it was curled funny.  At any rate, I did cut the leather backing for the earrings with the machine and it cut like butter.

Using your 1.5 inch hole punch, punch out the cork circles for the front of the earrings.

If you have a Cricut Maker, you can make a circle shape the same size to cut out the faux leather backing.  You can also use the hole punch.  It’s up to you.  I was experimenting with it so I used the machine.

Use your standard hole punch to punch a hole in the cork for the earrings to fit in.  Using that cork circle piece as a guide, add leather backing and punch hole in same place.  Repeat with other earring.

Next you will glue the leather backing to the cork.  The glue will ooze through to the front of the cork.  I just smeared it around like Mod Podge since it will dry clear.  

Place glued leather and cork circles in a folded piece of wax paper and place under a heavy book to dry and flatten.

Assembling Cork Earrings

After the earrings are dry, attach a jump ring through the hole.  Close jump ring with pliers and add another jump ring.  Add the fish hook earring to the last jump ring and close with pliers.

Now you are all set with a super trendy new pair of earrings!

I absolutely LOVE these earrings!  I get so many compliments on them!

Make your own Cricut Craft Foam Earrings!

Cricut Explore Air 2
Cricut Plush Craft Foam
Deep cut blade
Jump rings
Fishhook earrings

I use my deep cut blade on a regular basis because I like to cut the more challenging materials for my projects.  The deep cut blade can even cut balsa wood!  (Don’t believe me?  Check out this post I did a couple of Christmases ago!)  If you are not using it, you will need to change to that blade to create your earrings.

Open blade clamp B and remove the blade housing unit.

Depress the plunger which will expose the blade.  Carefully pull blade out and set aside.  Open package for deep cut blade and remove the plastic cover.  Place blade into opening.  It is magnetized so you will feel it pull into the housing unit.  Place entire housing unit back in clamp B and close clamp.

You can tell the difference between the standard blade and deep cut blade.

Now that your blade is in place, you are ready to cut the thicker materials!  For this project, I used the plush craft foam but you could also use faux leather to make some amazing jewelry!

I made teardrop earrings but you can use any shape you want.  You can also size it to your preference.  I don’t like particularly long earrings so I would say these are about medium length.  

Preparing to cut your Cricut Craft Foam Earrings

Once you have created your image in Design Space, you will need to adjust the machine for the new material.  Craft foam is considered a custom material.  Turn the knob on the right hand of your machine to custom.  In your mat preview, click change material.  Use the drop down box and choose”craft foam, plush”.  You are ready to cut!

Remove your cut earrings from the craft foam.  Using your weeding hook, punch out the small hole in the top.  This is where you will place your fishhook earrings.

You will need 2 jump rings and a fishhook earring to complete each earring.

Attach a jump ring to the craft foam through the hole at the top.  Add another jump ring so that when you add the fishhook it will hang the correct way on your ear.  Finally, add the fishhook.

I LOVE how these turned out!  I’ve made a couple of different pairs now!

Plus it’s super easy to make!

MATERIALS NEEDED TO CREATE STAINED WOODEN BEAD NECKLACE:

3/4 inch round wooden beads

Hemp cord

Wood stain (I used the Rust-oleum Worn Navy for a denim look.)

Begin by mixing your stain.  Pour a small amount into an old bowl.

Dump the wooden beads in the stain.  Gently move the bowl back and forth as the beads roll around and collect the stain.  Once the beads are completely covered in the stain, let them sit for about 10 minutes.

They kind of look like blueberries sitting there in the bowl.  Don’t they?

After your ten minutes have passed, carefully remove the beads from the bowl and place on a paper plate.  I used a pair of needle nose pliers to pull them out of the stain.

Using a paper towel, pick up each bead and wipe away the excess stain from the bead.  Repeat this process with each bead.

Set the beads back on the paper plate or clean paper towel to finish drying.  The middles of the beads will be wet for some time.  I allowed the beads to dry over night before putting them on the hemp cord.

Once dry, thread the beads onto the hemp cord.  I cut my cord length at 36 inches.  This allows me to make it longer or shorter depending on the shirt I’m wearing.  I did NOT attach a necklace clasp.  I thought it looked much cuter just tying a now in the back!

I love how it turned out!  If you want to use a darker brown or something with more red in it, that would totally work too!

Everyone loves a handmade necklace!  Even better when it is simple to put together and makes a statement to wear.  I’m going to walk you through creating your own Beaded Snowman Necklace in three easy steps.  This necklace makes a great gift or winter accessory!

 All you need is a 3 inch flat head straight pin and 6 beads.

Begin by placing the flat ornate bead onto the straight pin.  This will prevent the larger beads from falling off the pin.  It also gives it a little glam.

Next, add the large bead.  This is the snowman’s body.  The medium bead will be his chest and the small bead is the snowman’s head.

The flat bead and square bead make up the hat.  Add those next.  It can be difficult to find the flat black bead.  I would start by checking at Hobby Lobby because they have such a large jewelry selection.  If you are unable to find it there, try Amazon.

Complete the snowman by creating a wrap around loop with a pair of needlenose pliers.

Add a chain to the snowman and you are done!

The snowman can be worn all winter!

Wanna make your own Easy Rosette Bib Necklace?

Here’s what you need:

Felt

Fabric rosettes

Scissors

Necklace chain

Needlenose pliers

Hot glue gun {not pictured}

Place your rosettes on the felt and trace around them.  Cut out your tracing.  Mine kind of looks like a boomerang.  {hee hee}  Next you will want to cut a small hole on the edge to put the chain through.  Repeat on the other side.

Using your needlenose pliers, pry open one of the jump rings.  Connect to felt and close with the pliers.  Repeat to other side.

Finally, hot glue your fabric rosettes to the felt!

Isn’t it darling?  Totally adds a little flare to an otherwise boring ensemble!

Wanna make your own Bobby Pin Bib Necklace?

Here’s what you need:

Bobby pins

Nail polish

Silver/gold chain

Cut the cardboard from the left hand side of the pack {where the holes are}.

Then paint the bobby pins with the nail polish.  Allow about thirty minutes to dry.  Once dry, thread the bobby pins onto your chain!  {The ones that were painted will be stuck together but they are really easy to break apart.}

What I love about this project is you can use any color of nail polish to personalize and match to the outfit of your choice!

Or if you prefer, there are various shades of gold, brown and black bobby pins to match different shades of hair.  You could even use those to create your own necklace!  I’m not a huge fan of gold which is why I chose to paint mine silver.  Although, I wouldn’t mind a Bobby Pin Bib Necklace in shades of brown!
