In reply to Krissy. I only provided the rotary cutter directions because I am also self taught. After ruining many pieces of fabric for my first quilt, I didn't want you guys to suffer the same fate. LOL I have the huge mat. It was definitely worth the investment. I would suggest only folding in half. You will have a lot of shifting if you fold multiple times. Maybe ask in the Facebook group from some of the more experienced quilters.

Thanks for giving instructions for the rotary cutter. I’ve had one for a while, but had no idea I should be angling it and thought I was just a little weird when I couldn’t cut straight! For those of us who are self-taught, instructions for the littlest details are quite helpful, either as validation that we’ve been doing them right, or correction if we’ve been doing them wrong!

Is there any trick to cutting the long strips on a small cutting mat? Do you fold it up and then cut through all the layers or do you just start at one end and work your way to the other end?
