Verona Zig Zag Quilt

This Verona Zig Zag Quilt is the beginning of a beautiful friendship…

Quilting is a labor of love,

a test of patience,

and an outlet for creativity.

Quilting is intimidating.

You begin with over 120 pieces of fabric and watch it come together into something more beautiful than you envisioned.

When Ashley at Mommy by Day Crafter by Night announced that she was doing a Quilt Along with start to finish tutorial, I was intrigued.  {Big hugs and a huge thanks to Ashley for patiently answering all my questions!}  I had some reservations, mostly about my sewing machine and its capabilities.  But I knew I wanted to challenge myself.

Those of you who follow me on Facebook have seen this quilt come together over the past month.

It’s finally finished!!

I chose the Verona fabric collection by Riley Blake Designs.  Beautiful colors and patterns!

{I didn’t know it was possible to fall in love with fabric but I did!}

Isn’t the fabric fabulous?  I mean, seriously.  It’s gorgeous!

The majority is machine quilted with a touch of hand stitching through the middle of the zig zags.

Despite the fact that it is 8pm as I write this post and still 95 degrees outside, I am curled up on the couch under my new blankie.  =)

 Quilting is dangerous.

I sliced my finger open with my rotary cutter, burned my fingertips several times, and pricked my fingers more times than I can count. The hubs even suffered an injury when he stepped on a straight pin!  Oops…

But the end result was worth all the pain and time!

On a final note,

Quilting is addicting.

I can’t wait to start on my next one!

Love it! I wish I knew how to quilt… scratch that, I wish I knew how to sew. It’s my goal for the year, but given its almost July and I still dont know how to turn my sewing machine on, its not looking too promising. Maybe someday I will be able to make this!

Jill, that turned out amazing!!! I’m trying to quilt along with Family Ever After. But instead of just following like I should, I’m trying to do a queen sized quilt. And I’m terribly behind. I just hope I can still catch the link party. Seeing your quilt makes me wish I had gone with this one. I LOVE IT!!

Oh mercy, this is just gorgeous!!!!! Amazing job! I am doing the quilt along on my blog too, not sure if you’ve seen that, but i’m using the same fabric for my ruffle top quilt. SO fun that we chose the same fabric. I absolutely love how yours turned out! xoxo

Jill, this is so beautiful! My very first sewing project was a quilt, so I consider that my sewing “roots”. There’s something so wonderful to be able to snuggle up with something handmade, so I know what you mean about being ready to do another!!

Great work, I love the colors and hand stitching, it’s a beautiful touch.

Looks like at least some Heather Bailey fabrics in there, right? It does look too sweet not to cuddle with. Did you make the whole thing start to finish in a month? Nice work, and definitely looks like the finished project was worth the quilter’s injuries. I must admit I wish I had made something so sweet.
