The Best Homemade Cinnamon Applesauce

A couple of weekends ago, we went apple picking at a local farm.  It was the first time for all of us.  Reed got such a kick out of riding the tractor and using the little apple picker thing-y.  I love watching his excitement as he tries things for the first time.  It is absolutely priceless!  We got plenty of apples to make the Best Homemade Cinnamon Applesauce!

As any of my regular readers know, I am not the cook in our household.  My husband does 90% of the cooking around here.  (I will bake on occasion.)  When I asked him if I could write a post about the applesauce, he conceded.  This is his recipe.  (He made me say that.)

1/2 Allspice

1/4 Nutmeg

After cleaning your apples, core and slice them.

Place the slices in a medium to large pot (depending on number of apples).

Add spices and let simmer on medium heat for about 20 to 30 minutes.

Once time has elapsed, strain the cooked apples.  (We let them sit while we ate dinner.)

Reed loves to use the food processor!

Finally, we whipped out the food processor and blended until it reached a desired consistency.  Kyle’s desired consistency is smooth with small chunks.  (Insert eye rolling here)
This recipe is great because it is all natural!  No sugar added.  We chose Jonathan apples because they are just sweet enough to not require any sugar.  (Avoid Granny Smith because they will be way too sour.)

Reed and Kyle both enjoyed drinking the left over juice.  (Ewwww but to each his own I suppose.)

Oh homemade apple sauce is one of my favorite things in the world! I always remember when I was a little girl and I didn’t feel well, I always requested my grandma’s homemade apple sauce for dinner because it always made me feel better! This one looks delicious and I’ll have to try it. Thanks for sharing :)

Yum! We typically make applesauce in the crock pot because I can just turn it on and walk away… it will cook away while I do other things. But this recipe looks so delicious that I’ll have to add it to my to-try list!
