Mother’s Day Picnic Date

If you’ve been following Create.Craft.Love for awhile, you probably know that my mother passed away when I was little.  I wasn’t big on Mother’s Day until I became a mother myself.  Now I can understand and appreciate my friends who also fulfill that role in someone’s life and celebrate with them!  This Mother’s Day Picnic Date is the perfect way to spend some quality time with the mother figure in YOUR life!!

Although my mother is gone and no one can fill her shoes, my best friend Sue does a pretty good job of it.  She and I met at work several years ago and were instantly drawn to each others warped sense of humor and sarcastic nature.  I was fresh out of my Master’s program and in a serious relationship.  So many of the changes that happen in young adulthood that require a mother’s input.  Then I got married and got pregnant.  I had no idea what I was doing.  The doubt that filled my mind echoed through the hole left in my heart from when my mother passed away.  How could I be a good mother when I didn’t have one of my own?  Sue guided me with the wisdom and care of a seasoned mother.  She has been my partner in crime, friend to laugh with and shoulder to cry on through so many ups and downs.  Even when I’m at my worst, she picks me up and dusts me off.  I don’t know where I would be without her!  She is an amazing mother with two grown children who are her world.  I’m just glad she’s been able to include me in that world too.

Heck, she even painted my toenails for me when I was nine months pregnant and I couldn’t reach my feet so they wouldn’t look bad in the stirrups!  I love this woman!

When I was offered the opportunity to work with World Market for their My Amazing Mom Contest, I instantly thought of Sue.  I am honored and blessed to have her in my life and to be able to show her how much I care by setting up our little Mother’s Day Picnic Date!  {Not mention the fact that she puts up with  me on a daily basis…LOL}

When we headed into World Market for this project, I was instantly drawn to the bright colors!  They had so much fun choosing items for our picnic date that we spent well over an hour trying to decide what to buy!wmmom

I just loved the aqua picnic basket with the blanket included!  What a great idea!  And it’s waterproof on one side – added bonus!  But since Sue had a hip replaced a couple of years ago, we figured it was better to plan on a picnic table luncheon.  😉

We chose these amazing Green Paisley Antigua plates and the Cool Tone Paisley Serve Bowl and created a color palate and theme based on them!  Sue and I were blown away by the lime green and aqua combo!

We accented the plates with the Coco Twig Chargers in aqua.  Throw in a couple of green Acrylic Stemless Tumblers and you have quite the picnic!

How cool is this Willow Woven Lantern?

For our Mother’s Day Picnic, I whipped up these Felt Watermelon Coasters as an extra little gift!

These are ridiculously easy to make!  Cut out three circles in varying sizes, hot glue together and use some fabric paint to draw on the seeds!  I made a set of four for Sue as part of her Mother’s Day gift.

We had a great afternoon together shopping and eating!  World Market has such a wide variety of goods!  {I could seriously spend all afternoon there.}  Check out some of these other Mother’s Day Gift ideas!
