Hi! I’m Wendy. I’m just a girl in a hat who loves to share her creative views with the world. I can be found at Wendys Hat of course, where I share all things HOME~GARDEN~LIFE and more. I’m so excited to be here today sharing my Christmas Scarf Wreath with all of you. It’s truly an honor to me that I was even given this opportunity to be included with such a talented group.
Christmas is such a fun time and I agree with Jill that a welcoming wreath on your front door is an important part of any holiday tradition.
I’ve been making wreaths of all types for many years and I always think I’ve tried it all, until I make the next one. I have a tendency to go elaborate but for this wreath I decided to challenge myself to make something beautiful but very affordable. I wanted it to be simple enough that anyone could do it, because we all want our front door to make a statement, but not everyone has the ability or resources to do that. This is where my Christmas Scarf Wreath idea comes in to help you out. It’s affordable and accessible to all.
Supplies:
18 inch Floracraft styrofoam wreath form
1 sweater scarf {from your closet or thrift store}
1 pre-made bow {$1 store find}
1 or 2 Christmas ornaments {$1 store finds}
Now follow these 4 simple steps.
Instructions:
1. Simply take your scarf and wrap it tightly around the wreath form, bunching it up as you go, until the ends meet in the back. Because the knit sweater will cling to the styrofoam, you don’t need to glue anything down. You can gather the scarf up and move it around as needed.
2. To finish off where the two ends meet on the back you can just use a few small safety pins. You could also hand stitch it together if you want to. So simple.
3. Now just attach your pre-made bow to the top of the wreath. They usually come with a wire that is ready to attach so you don’t need to do anything except attach it. So simple for the person who isn’t familiar with making bows. I would recommend to go with a ribbon that has a wire edge because they look better and can be shaped easily.
4. Now simply decorate your wreath with an ornament or two. You could use one that you already have or easily find one to buy. To attach the ornament just use a safety pin and pin the thread, that is meant to hang the ornament onto the tree, to the knit fabric of the scarf. I usually center mine just underneath the bow.
How easy was that? For just a few dollars and a few minutes of your time you too can have a fun and fabulous holiday wreath to hang on your door! I’m now thinking of other ways you could make a fun sweater scarf, like taking two different scarves and twisting them together. I’m also picturing a creamy colored fluffy one for January. Time to go digging in the back of my closet for more scarves now. Do you have any scarves that you would use for a wreath?
