One of my favorite past times is sewing.  It allows me to escape my busy head and create something beautiful with my hands.  I have hand sewn all of my family and extended family’s Christmas stockings.  If you love to sew, these Hand Sewn Gift Tags are perfect for you!

Wanna learn how to make your own?

Here’s what you need!

Gift tag template

Heavy cardstock

Pencil

Scissors

DMC embroidery floss and thread

Cutting mat

Hole punch and ribbon

I began by tracing my gift tag template.

Then I drew a holly leaf and berries and wrote Reed’s name.

Cut out your gift tag.  Place on top of your cutting mat.  Using your needle, slowly and carefully begin punching holes around your drawing.  {These don’t have to be perfectly spaced – just eyeball it.}

Thread your needle with DMC embroidery floss {color of your choosing}.  I used a simple back stitch to sew around my picture and letters.

Here is a simple diagram explaining backstitching for those of you unfamiliar with the term.

I’m not gonna lie – these are a little more labor intensive but I just love the way they turned out!
