I love fall!

  It’s my favorite time of year!

The crisp bite to the air…
The smell of burning leaves…
The deep, rich, soothing colors that signal nature’s final party before resting for the winter…
I decided it was about time to spice up my porch for the season (and to have something to go with my Simple Burlap Fall Wreath).
Thankfully, Miracle Gro has a wide selectionFall gardeningprojects and tips featured at their website!  Search by region for great ideas to Find beauty in the Fall!  After searching through all the Fall gardening projects, I decided I wanted to add some color to my porch with mums.  I found this adorable idea on Pinterest for planting mums in pumpkins!  {Head over to Circadee for the original tutorial!}

How pretty is that?

Since real pumpkins are not available yet, I opted to use a foam pumpkin from Michael’s.

I began by cutting open the top of the pumpkin.

Next, the pumpkin needed a drain hole.  I used a 3/8 inch drill bit and drilled a hole in the bottom of the pumpkin.

For best results and to give my new little plant a happy home, I decided to use the Miracle Gro Potting Mix.  The special Fall plant and feed formula continues to fertilize for up to six months.  The directions on the back of the bag were simple to follow!

I filled the pumpkin 1/3 full with the Miracle Gro Potting Mix.

  I carefully transplanted my mum into the pumpkin and added extra Potting Mix to ensure it had a good environment to grow.

The pumpkin looked a little plain so I added a vinyl monogram to the front.  I must say it is my fall favorite project so far!

  1. Beautiful! I think using the fake pumpkin was probably a better idea…I can only imagine how quickly a real one would have rotted! Love the detail you added to it as well :)
