We threw a moustache birthday party for my dad as a surprise for his 60th birthday. For ten months, my sister and I have been planning and organizing a surprise party for my dad. He is the type of person who gives willingly and freely, never expecting anything in return. We wanted to show him how appreciative we are and how much we love him! I came across this 60th birthday party idea at Under the Sycamore. A moustache party!! As long as I can remember, my dad has sported a stache. In fact, the only pictures I have seen of him without one were all prior to 1970.
Planning:
At first, we were going to throw it at his favorite restaurant but that was going to cost quite a bit of money. Then I saw that the St. Louis Home and Garden show was exactly one month PRIOR to his birthday. It would be the perfect excuse to get him out of the house and to completely throw him off! Jennifer was in, then we just had to do the planning.
Over Christmas, my friends’ photography company (Glory Photography) took some amazing pictures of my son and my niece! {If you live in the St. Louis/Columbia area – check them out! Their work is incredible!} My sister created this adorable invitation for the party! {My phone number and my dad’s address are blocked out for obvious reasons!}
Execution:
The day of the party, my Uncle Mike was able to distract him at the home show for eight hours! We had all of the guests arrive and park at Uncle Mike’s house. We had over fifty people show up! That’s a pretty big turn out!
Have you seen the instant film guest books for weddings? Well, we created our own and it was a huge hit! {Stay tuned later this week for more details on that…}
The cake was from McArthur’s Bakery (a local bakery in the St. Louis area). It was delish! The top layer was chocolate and the bottom layer was vanilla. I am still feasting on some vanilla leftovers!
